Can I Hypnotize Myself?

By on March 9, 2016

Hypnosis seems like a magical term which usually relates to magicians and psychologists. When you hear the word hypnosis, you would usually think of a doctor using a pendant, hypnotizing a patient. But hypnosis is actually not always like that. You can even experience it without the help of a doctor or an expert. Examples of situations are, driving mindlessly then suddenly remembering that you are actually driving a car, or watching a movie and getting so hooked that you don’t notice the people around you anymore.

To hypnotize yourself follow these simple steps:

1.Relax and assume a comfortable position. Find a position that will keep you awake for at least half an hour. It’s better to sit than lie down to avoid drowsing off. You can stay in your room or any place that can be relaxing for you, and it should also be free from distractions and disturbances.

2.Ask yourself, what do you want to achieve? Hypnosis is something that can help you achieve a certain goal. It can be self confidence, weight loss, cessation of bad habits, or just anything. You should also make it clear to yourself that you want to achieve this certain goal.

3.Close your eyes and empty your mind. Remove all thoughts, feelings, fears, and anxieties.

4.Be aware of the different sensations in your body. Feel the tensions on your muscles, from head to foot. Slowly remove these tensions and relax your body parts. As the heaviness and tension in your body goes away, imagine yourself getting lighter.

5.Imagine that you are standing on a staircase with 10 steps. On the fifth step down, there is clean, clear, and cool water. Go down the stairs slowly until you reach the fifth step. Feel your feet touch the water and as you go further down you will feel more relaxed and serene. As you enter the water imagine yourself being cleansed from all your problems, troubles, and anxieties. As you descend down the water feel its coolness and pleasant sensation in your body.

6.As you reach the bottom of the staircase, let your problems out and make it clear that you want to achieve your goal. Then imagine that there are three boxes under the water. Each box contains something positive that can help you achieve your goal. It can be inspiring and motivating phrases such as “I can do it”, “I am strong”, or “I am beautiful”. Say these several times to experience its utmost result.

7.Once you are done, position yourself back in the stairs, and then come up slowly. Feel yourself coming out of the water as you rise up. On the sixth step there is no more water and you will feel heavier, so pause, and wait for your body to adjust then proceed.

8.On the last step or the tenth stair, open your eyes slowly and wake up. Shake your body and say, “wake up”. Slowly you will feel your mind and thoughts return to its non-hypnotized state. You will also feel more relaxed and calm, proof that your self-hypnosis is successful.
